June 2017 Forbidden & Limited List

We’re faced with another Forbidden & Limited List update. I’m hesitant to call anything an emergency because Konami knows what’s going on with the meta, especially in the TCG because OCG is ahead of us. Regardless, we’ve got a new list going into effect June 12. JUNE! We never get lists ahead of time anymore, it’s strange. That’s over three weeks away.

We used to get the April/October and March/September lists about 10-14 days before the first of the month and they’d go into effect then. After the September 2013 list, they were doing four lists a year, each lasting three months, which nearly everyone was in favor of even though it meant the best decks would effectively rotate sooner. Then they just stopped telling us when the next list would end. I’m just going to give you the dates new lists were put into effect. Take a look, then we can try to parse what it means.

Before you say konami hates the tcg, let me just give you a short list of great TCG exclusives.

Test Tiger
Lonefire Blossom
Allure of Darkness
Ehren, Lightsworn Monk
Charge of the Light Brigade
Gateway of the Six
Infernity Barrier
XX-Saber Darksoul
Maxx “C”
Reborn Tengu
Tour Guide from the Underworld
Evolzar Dolkka
Wind-Up Rabbit
Wind-Up Shark
Wind-Up Zenmaines
Mermail Abyssteus
Burning Abyss
All the Kaijus
All the Kozmo
Tornado Dragon

Now that we’ve gotten the misconception that the OCG gets all the good WP cards, let’s talk about the June TCG list. Yes, TCG lists are now erratic and have no real pattern like every three months.

Elder Entity Norden

I’m not surprised. Norden does dumb things with Instant Fusion as well as actually properly fusion summoning it nowadays. I have nothing more to say than good riddance.

Speedroid Terrortop

Let’s do a quick comparison to the days of triple Tour Guide plus Sangan days when Xyz Monsters were new. Tour Guide is usually Zenmaity, Zenmaines, Leviair, Leviathan, Temtempo or Acid Golem. Tour Guide also is two Level 3s, one of which searches your Veiler, Maxx “C” or whatever combo piece you’re missing. Tour Guide used your normal summon but the game was slower back then, OTKs less frequent and the second Guide wasn’t dead. Terrortop is and was primarily used to summon Dante and Invoker which both summon guys from your deck. The game is so fast right now that it doesn’t matter if you have two completely dead cards in your deck, the game is over before you have a chance to draw into the extra Terrortops. Sorry Speedroid fans, Terrortop shouldn’t have been able to be used for Xyz Summons.

That Grass Looks Greener

Mill yourself for 20 cards shouldn’t be a card. The Solar Rechard and Charge of the Light Brigade mills were as important. That Grass Looks Greener incentivizes you to play what most people consider degenerately. I’m not upset to have combo decks but That Grass Looks Greener wants you to play in a way that most people find unfun, goes against how decks are built and is asking your to play a mostly bad deck otherwise.

Performapal Skullcrobat Joker, Wisdom-Eye Magician and Pendulum Call

These all go in the same deck. Yeah, Performapals existed without Wisdom-Eye or Pendulum Call but Magicians/Odd-Eyes always played the maximum amount of all three. In general, the pendulum Magician engine is fair and is capable of OTKs and doing things like making Big Eye, which will always be powerful except against decks where nothing can be targeted, like Kozmo. Performapals and Magicians don’t need more new cards after we get everything that the OCG already has.

Overall, this list has me excited to dust off Odd-Eyes Magicians again, even if they’re worse than what we’ve currently got. I’m glad to see Norden go. Looks like True Kings are still on top and Zoo isn’t bad, just worse. Shucks.

Thanks for reading. Please click an ad and get your Wisdom-Eyes again.
